“GARDEN OF ALLA - THE NAZIMOVA STORY:
BRILLIANT ONE-WOMAN THEATER”

“DASH DO NOT WALK, TO EXPERIENCE GARDEN OF ALLA: THE ALLA NAZIMOVA STORY.”

“One-woman piece de resistance.”

”An impressive, vivid portrait …enlivened by Nordlinger’s dynamic, captivating presence.”

“Exploring bravura acting, Hollywood history, LGBTQIA issues, creative stagecraft, feminism, anti-Semitism.”

– Ed Rampell, Hollywood Progressive

“Director Lorca Peress, video and graphic designer Adam Jesse Burns, plus score and sound designer Nick T. Moore combine to render an impressive, vivid portrait of the title character, which of course is enlivened by Nordlinger’s dynamic, captivating presence. … This deliciously mounted bioplay is a Garden of earthly (and earthy!) delights for theatergoers.”

Opening night at Theatre West was a smash!

Sold out house, a standing ovation, and a 1920’s themed after party. Hot diggity!

Romy Nordlinger quoted in this article about The Founding Mother of Sapphic Hollywood

“We are all the stories we tell, and as Nazimova said, ‘An artist is only dead when the last person to remember them dies.’”

Interview with Nordlinger about becoming Nazimova

“Her commitment to art was uncompromising. She challenged herself to rise above adversity like nothing I’ve ever seen. She reminded me of my own inner voice that I have tried to cultivate; the voice that guides me to believe in myself beyond what other people think.”

“Garden of Stars”

Richmond Magazine covered the upcoming shows at the Firehouse Theatre

The life of stage and film star Alla Nazimova is one of those stories that could become a topic for a TV series. A Jewish Crimean immigrant, Nazimova became a Broadway and Hollywood silent film megastar and director. Her Sunset Boulevard mansion, the Garden of Alla, hosted glittering occasions with Greta Garbo, Charlie Chaplin and many others. She loved men and women and didn’t stick with convention, which unsettled the Hollywood establishment. New York-based actor-director Romy Nordlinger, a former Richmonder, is sharing Nazimova’s story in a one-woman show, “Garden of Alla,” at the Firehouse Theatre.

Garden of Alla was featured in Style Weekly

“I have watched audiences from their teens to their 90s who’ve been moved by Nazimova’s story. It’s a universal story that inspires, and everyone leaves the theater asking, ‘Why have I not heard of this woman?’” —Romy Nordlinger
